Voice Cloning Terms & Conditions

Last updated: March 16, 2026

Vois includes voice cloning technology that allows you to create custom voices from audio samples. This powerful feature comes with important responsibilities. By using voice cloning in Vois, you agree to these terms.

Plain English Summary

  • Get explicit consent. You must have clear permission from the voice owner before cloning their voice.
  • No impersonation. Never use cloned voices to deceive people or create fake content that appears to be from someone else.
  • No deepfakes or fraud. Creating deceptive content or using cloned voices for scams is strictly prohibited.
  • You are responsible. You bear full legal responsibility for how you use cloned voices.
  • We may revoke access. Violations of these terms may result in immediate license termination.

Explicit Permission Required

Before cloning any voice, you must obtain explicit, informed consent from the voice owner. This means:

  • The person whose voice you are cloning must clearly understand what voice cloning is and how their voice will be used
  • They must voluntarily agree to having their voice cloned—no coercion, deception, or implied consent
  • You should document this consent in case you need to prove it later

Cloning Your Own Voice

You may freely clone your own voice without additional consent requirements. When you create a voice clone in Vois, you confirm that either:

  • You are the voice owner, or
  • You have obtained explicit consent from the voice owner

Commercial Voice Talent

If you commission voice recordings from professional voice actors or talent, your agreement with them must specifically include permission for voice cloning and AI synthesis. Standard voice-over contracts typically do not include these rights—you need explicit authorization.

Prohibited Uses

Absolutely Prohibited

The following uses of voice cloning are strictly forbidden and may result in immediate license termination and legal action:

  • Impersonation for deception – Creating audio that falsely represents someone saying things they never said, with intent to deceive listeners
  • Deepfakes – Generating fake media designed to mislead people about what a real person said or did
  • Fraud and scams – Using cloned voices for phishing, social engineering, or any form of financial fraud
  • Harassment and threats – Creating intimidating or threatening audio using someone's cloned voice
  • Non-consensual intimate content – Creating sexual or intimate audio without explicit consent
  • Political manipulation – Generating fake statements attributed to politicians, public figures, or officials
  • Evidence fabrication – Creating fake audio intended to be used as evidence in legal, professional, or personal disputes

Also Prohibited

  • Cloning voices of minors for any purpose other than by their parent/guardian for family use
  • Cloning voices of deceased individuals without consent from their estate
  • Creating content that violates the voice owner's terms of consent
  • Using cloned voices in ways that could damage the voice owner's reputation
  • Circumventing the consent confirmation requirement in the app

Your Responsibilities

Legal Compliance

You are solely responsible for ensuring your use of voice cloning complies with all applicable laws, including:

  • Right of publicity laws
  • Privacy regulations
  • Defamation laws
  • Intellectual property rights
  • Any emerging AI voice or deepfake regulations in your jurisdiction

Disclosure Requirements

Depending on your jurisdiction and use case, you may be legally required to disclose that audio was AI-generated. We recommend clearly labeling AI-generated content whenever appropriate, even if not legally required. Transparency builds trust.

Record Keeping

We strongly recommend maintaining records of consent for any voice cloning involving other people. This protects both you and the voice owner if questions arise later.

How Voice Cloning Works

For transparency, here's what happens technically when you clone a voice in Vois:

  • You provide a short audio sample (5-60 seconds recommended) of clear speech
  • The TTS engine analyzes the audio to extract voice characteristics
  • A voice state file is created and stored locally on your device
  • This voice state enables the TTS engine to generate new speech in that voice
  • The original audio sample is retained only as a reference—it is not uploaded anywhere

All voice cloning processing happens locally on your device. Voice data is not transmitted to our servers or any third party.

Attribution & Licensing

Built-in Voices

Vois includes 63+ universal library voices across 15 categories, engineered for consistent quality across all TTS models. These voices are available to all subscribers and may be used freely for any purpose—commercial, personal, or creative.

Cloned Voices

Voices you clone are not subject to the built-in voice library's licensing terms. Instead, your rights and restrictions depend on your agreement with the voice owner. Ensure your consent covers your intended commercial or non-commercial use.

Enforcement

Violation Consequences

If we become aware of violations of these terms, we may:

  • Issue a warning and require removal of offending content
  • Immediately terminate your Vois license without refund
  • Report serious violations to relevant authorities
  • Cooperate with law enforcement investigations

Reporting Abuse

If you become aware of voice cloning being misused in ways that violate these terms, please report it to support@vois.so. Include as much detail as possible to help us investigate.

Limitation of Liability

Vois provides voice cloning technology as a tool. We are not responsible for how you choose to use it. You agree to:

  • Accept full responsibility for your use of voice cloning features
  • Indemnify and hold harmless Vois and its creators from any claims, damages, or legal actions arising from your use of voice cloning
  • Defend us against any claims that your voice cloning activities violated someone's rights

Changes to These Terms

Voice cloning technology and regulations are evolving rapidly. We may update these terms as the legal and ethical landscape changes. We will notify you of significant changes through the application or via email. Continued use of voice cloning features after changes constitutes acceptance of updated terms.

Questions?

If you have questions about these terms or need guidance on responsible voice cloning practices, contact us at support@vois.so.

Remember: Voice cloning is a powerful capability that requires responsibility. When in doubt, ask for explicit consent, be transparent about AI-generated content, and consider whether your use could harm the voice owner or deceive listeners. Ethical use of this technology benefits everyone.
